Dan Levitan, Harp      Maria Tamburrino, Flute

The golden flute and golden harp tones of the virtuoso duo, SONIC GOLD, have warmed hearts for almost two decades. The ideal music making and instrumental combination of Maria Tamburrino, flutist, and Dan Levitan, harpist, creates a symphony of exquisite tonal colors that never ceases to hypnotize an audience.

They have acquired an impressive repertoire of original music for the duo as chamber musicians and have performed orchestral works written for flute and harp, such as the Mozart Concerto in C for flute and harp, and the Howard Hanson Serenade.

Both Dan Levitan and Maria Tamburrino are masterful transcribers as well, having added Japanese folk tunes, Jewish melodies, Bach flute sonatas, the great piano music of Claude Debussy, the Claude Bolling Jazz Suite , and even a daring transcription of the Sarasate Carmen Fantasy to their ever-growing repertoire.

Here's how the critics have responded:

"The concert's single standing ovation went to Mozart's concerto, and it was well deserved. Tamburrino and Levitan invested the work with impeccably matched virtuosities. Tamburrino's consistently rich tone and artfully turned phrasing made her every entrance anticipated. Levitan's harp work maintained delicacy and he was able to keep melodic profiles in the foreground while at the same time maintaining elaborate accompaniment patterns." --San Jose Metro

"Maria Tamburrino, flutist, dressed in a lavish blue gown, and Daniel Levitan, harpist, performed in a luminous fashion with just the right touch of grace and elan." --Hokubei Mainichi

"Wonderful solo work was everywhere apparent from soloists Tamburrino and Levitan." --San Francisco Chronicle

"The Sonata by Damase contained melodies begging to be sung. Tamburrino handled these melodies exquisitely. Levitan displayed prodigious technique and ability to handle the difficult accompaniment." --Peninsula Times

Among her many accomplishments, Maria Tamburrino is the founder of Tamarin Productions. For more about Maria, see her page of this web site.
