Cody Molho, newest flute quartet member, is 15 years old and has been playing flute since she was 10 and piccolo since she was 12. Cody began studying with Mrs. Tamburrino in the summer of 2010. She is a member of the first flute section of California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (CPYO) which toured Salzburg, Vienna, and Prague in the summer of 2011. Cody has received a Command Performance at the state level CMEA solo and ensemble festival ('08-'11). She has received an award for outstanding contributions to her school music program. When she is not playing flute, Cody enjoys photography and learning foreign languages.
Rachel Adams, 14, began playing the flute when she was eight years old. She
is now in the 8th grade and in her third year with the Berkeley Youth
Orchestra where she is principal flute. In 2010, she was a winner of their
concerto competition. In addition to flute, she plays the piccolo in the
Orchestra. She also began singing with the Piedmont East Bay Children's
Choir at age seven and is now a member of Ensemble where she sings soprano.
With the Choir, she has traveled to New Orleans, Orlando, and British
Columbia in 2010, where they won first prize in the Contemporary Music
category and second prize in the Children's Choir category. When Rachel
isn't making music, she likes to knit and read fantasy novels.
14-year-old
Maureen Sides began her music studies at the age of six by first
learning how to play the harp. In third grade she began to learn flute as
well. After learning both the flute and harp for four years, she decided to
focus her efforts on the flute. In addition to the Primary Colors
Flute Quartet, Maureen, who is currently in middle school (eighth grade), is
also member of the Oaktown Jazz Workshop (performance ensemble), Oakland
School for the Arts high school classical ensemble and jazz ensemble, and
was selected to be a recipient of San Francisco Jazz High School All Stars
mentorship program. She has opened for the Oakland East Bay Symphony,
performed several times at Yoshi's Jazz Club in Oakland. Maureen's other
passions include obsessing over Harry Potter trivia, spoiling her dog, and
eating burritos.
Clara Park, 15, began studying violin at the age of 5. At age 10, she had a
great "Epiphany" and switched instruments to the flute and commenced lessons
with Maria Tamburrino. Now in eighth grade, Clara is a member of Berkeley
Youth Orchestra, where she advanced one chair this year at seating auditions
and has been awarded a "superior" rating in CMEA in 6th and 7th grades.
During her free time, Clara loves to read, write, draw, and cook.
Kristen Fang, flute quartet member emeritus, has been playing the flute ever since she was nine and the
piccolo since thirteen. Now fourteen, she is currently a member of the Young
People's Symphony Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra.
She has won several competitions including the Berkeley Youth Orchestra
concerto competition ('09), the Junior Bach Competition ('10, '11), and the
U. S. Open Competition ('11). Other than playing her flute and piccolo,
Kristen enjoys reading classics, studying Latin, taking scenic walks, and
listening to classical music.
